(More customer reviews)These hot water heaters work GREAT -- while they work! They make plenty of hot water and save money month-to-month over the standard hot water heater because they make only the hot water that you use and don't keep re-heating a tank full of hot water. The PA-28 unit here made enough hot water for a household with six children including bath/shower water, dishwasher and washing machine. PLUS, we heated the house with the hot water through plastic pipes in the floor. Never once, while it was working, did we want for hot water.
HOWEVER, they don't last very long. Since 2001, when we had the first one installed, we've had to replace the unit twice. Now, Nov 2010, the one we have has failed and needs to be replaced again! The first two times the housing surrounding the heating elements cracked, causing leaking and water damage (not covered by Seisco). This time, the electronics board seems to have gone bad.
I'M NOT SAVING ANY MONEY ANY MORE. Since the original warranty is long gone, I'm stuck having to replace the unit every 2 to 3 years. Not good.

Now there is warm water instantly and hot water is just seconds behind. It has been extremely nice this winter, avoiding freezing water from the tap.
Cheaper recirculating pumps utilize a a plastic valve under the sink that will wear out and need replacement. The body of the valve in this pump is brass and looks like it will last for a very long time.

The auto circpump is installed under the sink or faucet farthest from the water heater - wherehot water usually takes the longest amount of time to arrive. A built-in temperature sensor automatically turns the autocirc pump on when the watertemperature in the hot water supply line cools down to 85º F. Replacing it with the same style tank based system was not automatic for me as I saw this as a chance to regain some coveted garage space. The local home depot had Rheem tankless water heaters but not quite the model I wanted so I started searching online and ended up here. Noritz is the cadillac of the tankless water heater systems - you cannot go wrong with them, certainly for this price and you save tax on top of that.
The system was installed by our plumber in 1 day. Whereas I had an inside tank based water heater before, I now have an outside tankless water heater and just a few pipes in the garage. The unit installed easily (according to the plumber) and operated instantly and without flaws. I have had it for 2 weeks and have received excellent hot water service from it. We have a 3 people living in the house and never have to struggle with luke warm water, even if the washing machine and/or dish washer is doing its business at the same time someone takes a shower. This unit is small but boy does it deliver!
In case you are considering going tankless, these might be your conserns:
1. Will I have hot water or luke warm? This is largely a question of how much hot water do you need at a given time. This unit raises 7.5Gallons/minut 45F. The shower is about 2G/m, a faucet perhaps 1G/m, the dish washer and laundry perhaps each another 2G/m. If incoming water is at 60F, I end up with 100F or so for the shower, which is more than enough. The dish washer has its own heater... 7.5G/m is more than enough.
2. Will I have hot water ... instantly? Ah, no, you won't but that is not a problem of your water heater. If you have not used hot water for a while, all water in the pipes turns cold. Once you turn on the hot water tap, all that cold water needs to come out first before you feel hot. Tank or tankless based systems would perform identically in this respect.
3. My current tank based system is in the garage, should I not just go with an inside unit? Sure you can but these systems require a stainless steel exhaust (no, you cannot use your existing ventilation). The stainless steel exhausts are ridiculously expensive and runs in the hundreds of dollars quickly. If you have the chance to put the unit outside, do it. Now, if you live in an area where "things" may get pretty cold outside and you have to run considerable lengths of copper - perhaps inside is better for you.
4. Can I compare different brands by just looking at thair G/m rating? No, you need to determine the G/m rating AND how many degrees it raises the water temperature at that rating. Not all brands specify this identically!
5. If I just need a trickle of hot water, will the unit actually kick in and heat the slow flow? Yes, it will. Some other brands may not but this Noritz does turn on as soon as you use hot water, however little.

(More customer reviews)I'd like to first of all comment on other postings which gave the impression of how terrible this product is. On the contrary, this product is the best I have ever bought. It clearly states the Voltage rating as 220-240V so if you buy it without reading the technical details then you can only have yourself to blame. You should ask for the 110V rating if you live in North America and do not have a dual domestic electrical system (110/220~240V). Although it does involve some plumbing work, it is not as if one has to assemble a space shuttle. Please get an ordinary plumber who is able to connect a T-joint PVC pipe from your cold water source in the bathroom to the INLET of the Heater (Blue Dot) and the outlet of heater to your existing hot water line. As regarding a professional Electrician, I don't really know why these guys are asking for such. All you need to get is a 3-PIN plug and connect to the bare wires (Pig Tail) of heater and switch on the unit, and you are ready to go. Maximum installation time including plumbing shouldn't be more than an HOUR. Anything more than that means you are DEFINITELY DOING SOMETHING UNCALLED FOR!

(More customer reviews)Great price, and looks nice, but the anode rod, which determines the life of the tank is only 28" long. It should be at least 44 or 48 inches long. And its aluminum, which may poison your water should you use it in cooking.
I am changing to a 48" magnesium rod. The factory rod is perfectly designed to last about 3 years, so the tank should blow out around 6.1 years.
Since the new rod is only 13$ its still a good buy. Made in Mexico, unfortunately and sloppy work - the anode covered with pipe dope its entire length, and lots of metallic particles - no clean up of fitting before installation.
I paid $239 for mine. Now its much higher.

In addition, a review can be written by someone who in fact is not an authority on a specific product and is merely a malcontent who spreads negativity across the Internet. In fact, a negative review can be written against a seller by an industry competitor or simply because of a bias based upon perceived differences in their geographical location, their race, their gender, their sexual or religious points of view. This system lays waste to honest sellers simply because they are targeted for abuse by these Amazon users who wish to do nothing more than harm innocent businesses.
That being said, I am a customer and have actually on two occasions purchased a tankless water heater from this company. In fact I found them to be quite honorable and very well organized. I surmise that indeed they are a small company but in today's world, this is sometimes a benefit. Certainly their customer support system is based within the USA, and not subcontracted to Asia. When speaking to them on the telephone, I found them to be polite, professional and efficient. The products worked perfect for my needs and we are using them every day for quite some time now. In fact, I have no idea about their race, religious, or political views and could care less. What I do know is that the products I purchased are what I was looking for. So, at the time of this writing, you can count this review as the only one actually written by a customer of EZtankless.

(More customer reviews)A thoroughly disreputable company. Warranty is worthless. If your Rheem water heater has a 6 year warranty and fails after 3.5 years (as ours did), you may find them using all kinds of questionable tactics to escape responsibility.
On three separate calls to three agents they insisted our heater was 7 years old. They had clearly been trained to say this, the patter was so automatic. When challenged with their own web-site's data, which stated (correctly) that the heater was still under warranty, they did not know what to say and hung up! The house had been built only 3.5 years earlier! And indeed, the heater's body was date-stamped 3.5 years ago. What was going on here? Either Rheem was lying, or the plumber or the plumber's merchant had supplied old product, falsely relabeled. Of course the plumber and his merchant denied that. Finally after a lot of photos, heated phone calls, and intervention by the plumber's merchant in escalating to Rheem management, we discovered the procedure for making a claim.
Rheem's claims are handled by a third party agency, ESIS Risk Management. We supplied photos of the leaking rusty tank and the flooding in the cellar and adjacent room that it had caused. ESIS are apparently tarred with the same dirty brush as Rheem. Despite the overwhelming evidence, ESIS' Susan Fritts insisted there was no proof of defect and that a report was required from a `forensic plumber.' Oh yeah, like we had sabotaged our own heater and voluntarily lived without hot water for two weeks?? The forensic exam could cost $1000 and would not be reimbursed even if Rheem were found to be at fault!! Outrageous! That's more than the cost of a new heater! ESIS and Rheem had created an impossible obstacle.
So we were stuck with buying a new heater. Now these things are built like tanks (ha!). They should not fail after 3. 5 years, sitting untouched in a basement. It makes you wonder if Rheem is supplying old refurbs that are falsely relabeled with a new manufacturing date. And then wriggling like crazy to escape any liability. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

In fact the water is instantly ice cold without warning(dangerous for Grandmothers). It is less than five years old. The plumber has been to our house a couple times to look at it; as did the previous owners. The last time he was on the phone with Takagi's tech support and they both could not trouble shoot the problem. Everything tech support suggested was checked and the result was; no reason for the cold water problem. The fact is we're wasting more cold water down the drain than saving by having the "on demand" water heater. With the service calls, we're installing a tank water heater. I honestly don't think Takagi could get me to install another of their products in my house, even if it were free. Every bath, shower, laundry load and dish washer load shouldn't be an uphill battle.

I installed an ACT-909 a year or so ago, after we had a tankless water heater installed in the 3rd floor attic. Because it was inconvenient to install at the farthest location of the new part of our house, on the 2nd floor just beyond the shower, I installed it on the first floor beneath the shower. I don't know how our plumbing is run, but the ACT-909 works well in this configuration. The shower used to take a long time to get hot. Now it's hot within 5 - 10 seconds. We are happy.
The unit is completely silent and vibration free. I haven't bothered with the timer, so I am sure we are wasting money there.
I am buying a second ACT-900 for the old part of the house which has the same long lag in receiving hot water on the first floor kitchen.

Installation should be easy..
Uses standard 3/4 inch threaded lines for in, out, and overflow.
However.. the GL8Ti has 2 overflow ports..
You plug one (depending on top or side mounting) and use the other one for overflow..
This is a very nice feature, and makes mounting quite flexible.
The fittings going into the heater are brass and should seal OK..
However they are NOT tapered (as I think they should be).
Both of these ports leaked with what I would consider good/normal installation (teflon tape).
Both of these ports leaked with "upgraded" installation (teflon tape, plus joint compound).
Both of these ports held with a "super upgraded installation" (Teflon tape, plus joint compound, plus a thick seal gasket). (Gaskets are not a good idea in a water heating device.. They tend to rot out)
Took me a day and a half to diagnose and "address" the leaks..
I hope the the gaskets hold a good long time..
Made in China, with some components made in Italy...
Other than the install leak pain..... (which is/was big..)
I Love the way this operates!
-Runs on a normal 110 line!
-The insulation is fantastic, with water staying warm (without power) seemingly forever!
All of my future installs will probably be with the 4Ti (1/2 inch lines), just to avoid the darn 2nd overflow plug port..

(More customer reviews)I like this water heater quite a bit. This is a huge money saver if you only use hot water a few times a day. If you have people taking showers all day long, it is probably less so.
I researched these heaters on-line and found some people were pretty negative about them while other people were positive. I figured I would address the biggest complaints.
Complaint: It takes a while to get hot water.
Response: This is probably the biggest downside. It does take a bit longer to get hot water... this is less noticeable the longer it took to get hot water in the first place, however. If your point of use is far from your old tank, the extra delay is hardly noticeable.
Complaint: If you shut off the hot water and start it again you will get a burst of cold water.
Response: I've never observed this phenomenon. The hot water heater will shut off, and about bit of water must pass through it before it turns on again, but the thing is, the heat exchanger is still hot. So you are not going to get a burst of cold water in between uses of hot water, unless you've had the water off for a long time... in which case the water in your pipes is going to be cold as well.
Complaint: Not enough volume
Response: I've had no problem with volume of hot water with this model and the shower or dishwasher or any other appliance. I have it turned up all the way for the dishwasher, so this is the most restrictive setting. At any lower setting, or elsewhere in the US where the ground water isn't as cold as it is here, will have more water. They make a bigger model if you need to run two showers at once. That is not an issue for me.
Over all I'm very happy with this unit. The quality is excellent. The kit was complete. I've had no trouble with it. Installation is easy if you have basic plumbing skills. The hardest part - by far - of the installation is the venting. The exhaust gas is high temp, so you have to watch how close you get to combustible materials. This is a very good choice for anyone with an electric water heater, or someone who has a gas water heater that needs to be replaced.

I have checked our gas bill each month for the first year and the minimum we have saved (gas usage, not gas bill) is 22% each month! We have used as much as 77% less gas than the same month the previous year. Unlimited hot water on demand! No drawbacks. Plus, it uses a small space compared to the dinosaur tank water heater we had before. It fits attached to a stud where it's out of the way!!!! I would NEVER go back to the traditional tank water heater. Temperature control is extremely simple. Don't let unknowledgeable plumbers steer you astray with ridiculous things like "the water doesn't get hot" UNTRUE!!!!! Those plumbers just don't know and don't care to know and are stuck in the plumbing dark ages. This is the only way to go. Bosch stands behind this product.

(More customer reviews)I've put up with years with having to run the hot water at my kitchen sink for 3 minutes before I got hot water, which was actually only warm. I live in a house where the water heater, powered by propane, is about 40 feet from the kitchen. I installed the DHCE-10 in a weekend myself, it fit on the back wall right under the sink. The hardest part was running the 40 amp circuit over a 60 foot run for the power. Plumbing wasn't bad, this unit uses the cold water for the inlet, I turned off the hot water valve under the sink and capped it off and teed into the cold water line. The outlet side of the heater is teed, one to the hot water inlet on the faucet, one to the dishwasher.
Before having the DHCE-10 I would have to keep the propane heater turned almost as high as it would go so the water would be hot at the kitchen sink. There was a fair amount of temperature drop over a 40 foot run in a slab foundation. After powering up the DHCE-10, I had 120 degree water at my kitchen sink in 3 seconds, amazing. The first thing I did was turn my propane heater down to low, just warm enough for showers in the baths, which are in close proximity to the propane heater. Another benefit is my dishwasher is now cleaning the dishes more effectively with 120 degree water which is what is recommended.
As for the heater itself, it is well constructed, compact, simple and easy to set. There is a dial on the front which adjusts the water temperature from off to 125 degrees. The unit is self limiting to a max of 125. The ambient temperature of the water going into the unit is 50 degrees, (I live in the South, test done in winter), my flow rate is 1.3 gallons per minute at my sink. The unit heats the water instantly to 120 degrees. The unit only consumes power when the water is turned on, there is a flow detection switch that powers up the unit when water flows through it. It turns off instantly when the water flow stops. Can't get any more efficient than that. If you live in an area where you're ambient water temperature is lower, it may be necessary to reduce the flow at the faucet to achieve the desired outlet temperature, or install one of Stiebel Eltron's larger or smaller units, they have a variety of sizes depending on your needs. The hot water temperature is relative to your flow rate and the ambient temperature of your cold water. The Stiebel Eltron web site has graphs and recommendations for your area.
I've been using the unit for a month now, I've monitored my propane usage, it has dropped dramatically. Prior to installing the unit we would turn on the hot water at the sink for washing hands and rinsing dishes, it usually didn't run long enough to actually get any hot water but it did run long enough to cause the propane heater to cycle on to reheat the water in the tank. I've seen no appreciable rise in my electric bill so far. I would expect the unit to pay for itself over it's lifespan.
I highly recommend this unit, I chose it over competitive units for it's warranty, quality and reputation. All copper internal components, quality switches and connectors. If I were to ever build a house I would install these units in each bath and the kitchen sink instead of having a tank style heater that cycles on and off whether or not you use any hot water. I would prefer this style unit over a whole house tankless heater also, as these install right at or near the the point of use eliminating the long runs resulting in temperature drops.
