(More customer reviews)First: the Navien NR-series tankless has only been in service since Oct 2009, so the 2yr+ ownership reviews were done on the CR-series. The CR-series did have issues which were addressed in warranty fixes and massively updated on the NR-series. Second: do your research. I replaced my 17yr old A.O. Smith gas tank with the Navien NR-240A. The NR met my criteria of long warranty, EF, min GPM (zero). It didn't hurt either that I was getting the governments credit either, so I went to energystar.gov to do a lot of research heavy lifting. The "A" model included a small buffer tank (to eliminate the "cold sandwich") and a built in circulation pump. Make sure your plumber (or if you DYI) installs recirculation T's at the longest runs (in my case, master bathroom). Combinded with the built-in circulation pump, this will also eliminate the time it takes to get hot water to your facet (example: from 60sec to 5sec). Do not go with marketing fluff from other manufacturers (such as "market leader", "brand leader", etc...), go with what you need and what your criteria is (EF, GPM, warranty).

(More customer reviews)Purchased the AquaLivin' Solar Heater and it burst apart at the seams within a week of installing it. Also, the heater is designed with fittings that the water hose fits on. Water leaks out of both fittings where the fitting fits onto the body of the heater....should have been designed to where the fitting was molded into the body.
The heater has a clear dome that goes over the top of the unit. On the third day I noticed that the clear dome kept popping off of the heater when the pump was on...when the pump was off it would fit perfectly. About two days later the heater burst at the seam. Luckily my pool pump didn't burn up when all of my water drained out down to the skimmer.
If you do purchase one of these always keep an eye on the clear dome to make sure it doesn't pop off...this is a sign it may be getting ready to burst.
The company was very good about sending me a replacement. I haven't installed the replacement yet.

Apparently, the earlier models have a defective air check valve on the cold water input (outside/above) which leak (water). I have installed two of these: one in 2001 and the other in 2008. The 2008 installation has the new version of the check valve. It is brass, about 2" long, has air holes in the SIDES and not the end. IF YOU HAVE A MODEL THAT HAS THE OPENING/SCREEN AT THE END OF THE AIR CHECK VALVE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CONTACT RHEEM/MARATHON AND THEY WILL SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT OF THE NEW MODEL FOR FREE INCLUDING SHIPPING BEFORE IT BLOWS! Our 2001 air check valve failed which caused water and carpet damage. We purchased this model because it is not supposed to fail... Rheem customer service was great despite the opposite I have read on the web. This heater has a 6 year warranty on parts and the tank is lifetime. Even though the air check valve was 2 years out of warranty, they replaced it via Fed-x overnight at NO COST. I mentioned the ruined carpet to them, and they began a claim. All things considered, I am pleased with this. My plumber does not like anything with poly tanks, so I checked the web for recalls, class action lawsuits, etc., on this and found none. I am the only person I know of to mention the check valve problem above anywhere. They were so quick and friendly to replace the part, that I believe they know about it...

I replaced the motor in March 07, after 10 years of operation from the OEM motor. This replacement motor only lasted 17 months. This motor of course only has a 12 month warranty, now requiring me to replace it again after one season. The voltages being delivered to the motor are consistent, and it is somewhat of a disappointment that it was not built with longevity in mind.

The socket fits the 1 1/2" nut which the advertisement doesn't state. And it's heavy enough it should last forever. Only bad thing it took 18 days from the day of ordering until the day it was delivered. But I'm satisfied with the Camco socket.

As for hot water temperatures, very comparable. I would say its not scalding hot out of the tap, but steamy. Not bad, given its winter in New England. Electric units are out of the question, the power requirements needed to raise the water temperature put them beyond the capacity of most homes in this climate. Our consumption is moderate, just two in the household. Can two use the hot water at the same time? Yes, the hot water pressure will again be reduced, but not uncomfortable for the one in the shower. One important note, the household uses half-inch plumbing, while the city water feed comes in on a three-quarters-inch pipe; larger pipe capacity could be a factor to consider. Electrical savings are modest, though we only have one month to compare.

In other words, you need to be mounting the water heater against the outside wall of your home for this kit to work. If you are mounting your unit against such a wall and the wall is less than 18 inches in thickness, this is a perfect kit and will have everything you need. The only downside is that the kit does not do a good job of telling you how to install the required wall heat shield. A quick call to the company can provide you with the help you will need to install it.

(More customer reviews)If you listen to InSinkErator you will end up purchasing a new unit if not under warranty. The unit is easily fixed see below my instructions. I did pass this on to thier Customer Service hopefully they will review it and publish the instructions for everyone. It takes no parts just minor disassembling and cleaning.
You can easily repair the faucet handle sticking problem from the top.
1.) turn off water - actually you could leave on
2.) using a 3/4 inch open end wrench to remove small retaining cap holding handles in faucet. If you look close you will notice flat sections on cap. Be carefull not to mar finish.
3.) Then pop off handle pivot cap with a small flat screwdriver exposing the stuck plunger. There is hex cap that hold plunger assembly in but you would need a very thin wall socket to remove entire plunger assembly.
4.) Clean as much green goo from plunger area with paper towels and a tooth-pic.
5.) Fill with WD40 cover entire plunger leave soaking over night. (don't use solvents!)
6.) This should loosen remaing debris. Also work plunger up and down, a 1/4 inch extension works good for this.
7. ) reassemble and you should be as good as new.
In-Sink-Erator only wants to sell a new faucet they don't offer and rebuild kit even though the faucet can be repair from top without removing from sink. My faucet works like new after I was done I added vasoline over plunger area hopefully to keep debris out.

Before I bought it, I called Amazon to ensure that it's okay to install this thing in CA due to our stringent environmental laws. I was told if it's on the site and I can place an order with a CA delivery address, there's no problem.
So I ordered the heater and it arrived timely (the packaging was a little dinged up, but okay). As I'm walking around it, I see written on the packaging "It's a violation of the law to sell or install this heater in Southern CA.". I call up Bradford White tech support and they confirm that this unit is not allowed in southern CA. I call Amazon again and the 2nd rep confirms that if they sell it to me here, it should be okay and there are no notes on the item saying it's not okay in southern CA.
I ended up doing a return (via pickup) and spending hundreds more on a unit sold to me via a local plumber/installer.
Not a good experience. Amazon conceded that they're just fulfilling the order, but that it's sold by another company via Amazon.com, so it's not really their fault...

(More customer reviews)Ordered the propane model to put up in a Morton Building workshop. Package arrived quickly with minimal damage to outside cardboard box. Nice unit and fairly easy to lift (I am 6' 190 lbs. average jock) but recommend two people to lift in place on ladder or other device.
Things to consider for installation: Installed two joist between trusses in the attic to hang the unit from (time consuming). Venting horizontal is easier but I perfer vertical. Think this process out. This unit requires a 4" exhaust vent. I went through a metal roof and used a Dektite on 4" double wall exhaust pipe. Make sure you have the appropriate tools, fasteners and sealers before starting this part of the project. Hooking the exhaust vent to the unit should be well planned too. It is not easy and you should have the exhaust vent pieces you plan to use to take some rough measurements prior to fit up. I hung the unit using threaded rod on C channel so I could adjust the unit up or down, side to side, and back to front (I used 19" center to center from side to side, could use 20" too). The brackets in the kit require a small amount of grinding to avoid the strain relief on the blower fan and if you use the top 1/2" knockout on the back of the unit for electrical connections. Electrical connections are easy. The unit has two 1/2" knockouts on back for electrical connections. I used 16-3 cord for power and 18-2 (solid) for the thermostat. I have it on a 15 amp circuit breaker. Use a strain relief for the power cord. The gas pipe connection is 1/2" female. I already had propane gas pipe in the shop. I used various elbows, cross, and 1/2" pipe lengths for initial plumbing. A union was used for the final connection. Exhaust vent was connected first and then the gas pipe was fitted. It is easier to make adjustments to the gas pipe than the exhaust venting. Once all connections were checked, the unit powered up, the appropriate green light flashed on the circuit board and the unit fired right up.
The only problem with the heater involved the two top burners were allowing flame to reach and burn the section between the heat tubes. A call to technical support (30 to 45 minute wait on a Monday) stated to pinch the two pieces of metal that form the burner closer together in the area involved which solved the problem. This would not please the average joe. It involved removing 6 screws that hold the panel that the circuit board is on and 4 screws that hold the two burners in place. It took me two time to get it right. I didn't mind as I like to tinker and I have an above average selection of tools.
The unit is quiet for a forced air heater. It works great and heats up my 1800 square foot workshop quickly. It took two weeks of various evenings and weekends at a leisurely pace to get it installed. This review is being written two weeks after installation so no comments on longevity. Good luck!
