(More customer reviews)I'd like to first of all comment on other postings which gave the impression of how terrible this product is. On the contrary, this product is the best I have ever bought. It clearly states the Voltage rating as 220-240V so if you buy it without reading the technical details then you can only have yourself to blame. You should ask for the 110V rating if you live in North America and do not have a dual domestic electrical system (110/220~240V). Although it does involve some plumbing work, it is not as if one has to assemble a space shuttle. Please get an ordinary plumber who is able to connect a T-joint PVC pipe from your cold water source in the bathroom to the INLET of the Heater (Blue Dot) and the outlet of heater to your existing hot water line. As regarding a professional Electrician, I don't really know why these guys are asking for such. All you need to get is a 3-PIN plug and connect to the bare wires (Pig Tail) of heater and switch on the unit, and you are ready to go. Maximum installation time including plumbing shouldn't be more than an HOUR. Anything more than that means you are DEFINITELY DOING SOMETHING UNCALLED FOR!

They have an adjustable feature that supplies electricity to the silicone filled element to produce heat and then cut off the power when the silicone fluid gets hot. This feature saves energy. We also benefit from only heating those areas we want to keep warm by using zone versus central heat.
We bought them to reduce our usage of the central propane hot air furnace and have saved money by only heating areas needed and reducing propane usage.
They also help keep our yurts comfortable in the winter.

(More customer reviews)Installed this pump in three steps. First, installed a 115-volt outlet under the sink that was farthest from the water heater, a distance of about 50 feet. There were three other sinks and two showers all hooked to the hot water pipe that ran between this farthest sink and the water heater. Second, I insulated the hot water pipes leading from the water heater to this farthest sink. Most of these hot water pipes were located in a suspended ceiling. If the pipes were in a wall, I ignored trying to insulate them, figuring the wall was enough insulation. Third, I installed the pump under the sink. I set the timer to operate whenever I plan on using hot water in any of the sinks (i.e., 0600-2400). I have had the pump installed for about a year and appreciate it every day. When the water at the sink cools to 85 degrees, the pump cycles "on." When the water temperature reaches 95 degrees at the sink, the pump cycles "off." The water from the hot water side gets pumped to the cold water side so that the cold water is about 90 degrees, but that water cools rapidly. When the cold water faucet is turned "on," the cooler water quickly gets to the faucet. This pump is perfect for my needs.

(More customer reviews)I'm glad to see nobody else has bought one of these for their kitchen. I found lots of problems with mine:
1. There's a 3 second delay, causing a huge cold water sandwich, i.e., if you shut it off, or adjust it and it drops below the minimum flow, you'll get a huge wave of cold water for about six seconds, 3 for the delay, 3 more to warm up.
2. No more warm water trickle. In order to get half warm, half cold, you need to adjust the flow to 1.4 gallons/minute, hardly a small flow. The heater will not turn on unless 0.7 gpm flows in the hot water side.
3. Adjustment of temperature is a major job -- you need to shut off the dedicated breaker, remove the plate, and guess at where you want the setting, put the cover back on, restore the breaker. Then repeat the process until the temperature is correct.
4. It requires a dedicated 220 V 40 amp (for my model) line, an expensive item to install. And flourescent lights will flicker just a bit when the heater is on.
We like to wash small cups, silver, or a single dish or two by turning on a small warm or hot flow and rinsing, soaping, and rinsing in one stage, using a small amount of water. Then if we find another dish, it's nice to find the water is still warm. We can turn off and not waste the water between small washings. We've developed this habit due to the occasional water rationing we get here in CA.
Not so with the Eemax... Once you shut it off, you won't see hot water again for about 6 seconds. That's a lot of water down the drain. In general, this system is a huge water waster.
We find ourselves either scalding our hands, or washing in cold water. We paid for a new dedicated 220v line and breaker, and installation, which took a couple of days and cost a couple of grand. It was a collosal waste to buy this for a kitchen. I wouldn't want it in my bathroom either, no more running trickles of water for shaving, and either scalded hands or cold water washes.
The only good thing it does is provide the dish washer with very hot water. It works fine there, and I suppose I'll leave it there. But I'll have to add a small tank now for the hot water tap.
I suppose if you like to fill a sink with hot water for the wash, and again for the rinse, it might work for you. If that's always the way you work.
Save your money. Use a small tank for kitchen or bathroom, use the 110 volt existing line, and forget Eemax and equivalents!

(More customer reviews)When this item is combined with the tank and filter it is a very pricey item. The filter only filters out chlorine so is not needed if you don't have chlorine in your water. Perhaps a good plumber could plumb the filter out of the system. Also, the filters are expensive...$76+ for a two pack and you have to order them in most cases. I am having a problem with mine after two years...it's starting to not dispense water for up to 30 seconds after not being used for a few days. InSinkErator customer service has not as yet come up with a reason for this that fits my situation. Scheduling a warranty service through them is a hassle...they keep telling me what they think the problem is and I keep saying no it isn't, please schedule and that has yet to happen from there end. But I do love the unit when it works correctly.
The problem has been solved. It's the cheap plastic tank. The tank failed and leaked water which degraded the plastic and other parts. The water reacted with the plastic and was responsible for the taste, smell, etc. I have now disconnected two of them and will not replace them. Be aware that InSinkerator knows exactly what the problem is even though they deny it. The problems started wen they switched to the plastic tanks. Now they have a 'new' tank...stainless steel. I am sure there will be no problems with that but it's very expensive. I won't have another of their products based on their customer service and misleading.

(More customer reviews)We recently bought a 5000 watt generator to power essential home appliances--this is if and when a power outage should occur.
To make this convenient, we installed a Reliance transfer switch. (Note that the Amazon description is inaccurate in regard that the Reliance Kit 31406CRK is actually rated at 7500 watts).
We connected the switch to the house wiring right at the circuit box (as required). We found installation of the generator transfer switch to not at all be difficult (only a rudimentary knowledge of electrical circuitry is required).
When the electrical power from the grid is out, we can now keep essential appliances (well pump, refrigerator, and lights) in operation by running them off of the generator. The transfer switch allows connecting 4 house circuits at 120 volts, and 1 house circuit at 240 volts; or 6 house circuits at 120 volts.
As a side note, safe operation of sensitive electronic devices requires a clean power supply. Consequently, when running off of a generator, devices like TV's and computers should additionally be connected to a protected outlet. Ideally, the current should pass through a line power conditioner that has a voltage regulator. (Note that Tripp Lite sells a 600 watt line conditioner with voltage regulator for less than $100). Another good option for more safely operating electronic equipment when the grid is down would be through an DC-to-AC inverter.
All-in-all we find the 5000 watt generator combined with the Reliance transfer switch (the kit) to comprise an effective (yet inexpensive) system that can power most of our essential home appliances.

(More customer reviews)I have the Natural Gas "NG" version of this. I learned more than I anticipated needing to, on my quest for the perfect tankless water heater. The Bosch 800 series was my perfect model.
While it is now obvious to me why this model is head and shoulders above anything else, you may need to spend some time learning about tankless water heaters to see why it is so significant.
1) Ultra efficient, it has 92% efficiency. Only the top of the line models are this efficient. This means lower yearly costs.
2) Powerful: 10 gpm! This puppy can power most houses that have mutiple showers and sinks. It is their highest flow unit. It can also be daisy chained so another unit can be attached.
3) 15 year PRO warranty. Instead of the 5 year or 10 year of other models.
4) New Technology. This is the only Bosch unit to have the technology to create this efficiency and the cooling benefits.
5) Reliable. Even though it is cutting edge, some of its parts are based on the 715 unit that is very reliable.
6) Easy repair. Bosch has one of the most extensive list of certified repairmen. Also, unlike other companies, most of the parts can be replaced and are easily available, due to its popularity.
8) Low heat. This model has 2 condensers. That is why it is more efficient. The added benefit is that the heat coming out of this is like a hair dryer. Much MUCH cooler than most units.
9) PVC pipe can be used. I dont know of ANY other water heater that can be vented with PVC pipe. That means smaller pipes, easier work, and much cheaper. Normally water heaters need galvanized vent or Stainless steel venting which is extremely expensive. It can easily cost $300 or more.
10) Concentric Venting (one hole). Because the exhaust is so cool, you can use a Concentric Vent to combine both intake and exhaust from one hole (wall or roof). Without this a water heater need TWO 3 or 4 inch in diameter holes, at least 3 feet from each other. So the extremely hot exaust does not get used in the intake and overheat the unit.
NOTE:
I am just a consumer. I am not a guy that fixes these, nor do am I associated with a company that sells them. I just wanted a tankless & researched like crazy. Rheem, Takagi, and Rinnai were other companies who make products I considered.

When you have a bad water heater one doesn't need delays like this.
I know it's not fair to give a one star to Bradford white but I did not see how to review the seller.

(More customer reviews)Great price, and looks nice, but the anode rod, which determines the life of the tank is only 28" long. It should be at least 44 or 48 inches long. And its aluminum, which may poison your water should you use it in cooking.
I am changing to a 48" magnesium rod. The factory rod is perfectly designed to last about 3 years, so the tank should blow out around 6.1 years.
Since the new rod is only 13$ its still a good buy. Made in Mexico, unfortunately and sloppy work - the anode covered with pipe dope its entire length, and lots of metallic particles - no clean up of fitting before installation.
I paid $239 for mine. Now its much higher.

Very important item to have if a leak from your water heater would cause water damage to your house, as it did mine. I regret not having this earlier.

Leak Frog LF001 Water Alarm Review

(More customer reviews)I've had one of these for well over a year. Originally put it in my basement next to the water heater. We had had problems with water in the past (water softener issues, some rain seepage, etc) but we managed to repair those problems. Never heard anything from my little Leakfrog until a couple of nights ago.
In the middle of the night, I heard beeping coming from somewhere. It was enough to wake both me and my dog. Mind you, my bedroom is on the second floor, and the Leakfrog is in the basement. So it's plenty loud.
Finally figured out that it was the Leakfrog coming from the basement. The flexible water line going from the water supply to the water heater had started leaking. I doubt it had been leaking for more than an hour or so; there was only a small wet spot on the floor. So I shut off the valve to the heater and went back to bed. 10 hours and $10 in replacement parts later, it was fixed. Mind you, in those 10 hours, the water on the floor had completely dried, that's how little water it took to activate the alarm.
Had I not had the Leakfrog, it could have been weeks (and possibly causing substantial damage to the water heater or other items in the basement) before I would have noticed the leak. I highly recommend this for anyone that has a potential for leakage that could possibly go unnoticed.

(More customer reviews)I manage a few single-family properties and used Insinkerators on some of the units since the early 1980s. The early units had stainless tanks and will last anywhere from 5 to 8 years - pretty good. The later units went cheap, using plastic tanks and usually crack within 2 years - not that good. This unit in review has the SST tank, suppose to be stainless steal tank again for reliability. However I found it only lasted under 2 years, failing to dispense any hot or even warm water. The units I use within the last 10 years only lasted around 2 years on average. Many times it turn out to be a blown fuse, a few times between a bad tank or worn out on mechanical dispensing faucet parts. To save the fuse, don't turn up the temperature on the tank to maximum. I throw in a budget to replace it every 3 years, as it's not cost effective to call in service after the warranty period. Reliability experience on my own home use is about 2 years as well. I don't have enough hot dispensing units installed to have it statistically reliable, this is just my own experience.
Very nice when it works, could have been more reliable.

(More customer reviews)I have tried 5 different units over 8 yeasrs (two being this one). Only one worked 1/2 way decent, and it still has problems.
This one is the most powerful 110volt portable unit there is.
In general, they all end up leaking water all over the place. None of them seem to be able to evaporate the water as fast they are supposed to. By winter, I can expect the units to leak water everywhere, and the water light never comes on.
All 5 brands are cheaply made and by the same factory even though they are from different manufacturers.
If you are looking for portable AC. Better to skip it as you'll be lucky if you find a unit that satifies your needs. IF you are insistant, go with a better built unit. Google around for a unit built in the US, most likely it will be designed for server room cooling. Most likely that will run $1000-$3000.
I am on my 5th unit and wish we had just spent the money up front instead of having to replace the unit every year as we are doing now.
These units are generally cheap and you get what you pay for. I would rate this higher if not for the water issue (I just cleared an 1/8 inch of standing water out of a 12 x 12 room).
